UAE activates its regional initiative at the end of Gulf Satellite Aided Search and Rescue Seminar

The UAE announced its initiative at the end of the seminar to establish a 'Gulf Sub-Regional Civil Aviation SAR Coordination Committee' to comprise all Gulf State Civil Aviation Authorities and sections of the military sector responsible for SAR services.

In his speech delivered at the final seminar session, Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb, Deputy Director General of GCAA, said, "The Gulf States recognized the need for increased cooperation and coordination between their civil administrations responsible for SAR regulation, policy and provision and the state military authorities whose expertise, discipline and assets are essential to timely and effective civil aviation emergency response."

The Gulf Sub-Regional Civil Aviation SAR Coordination Committee will provide a standing Gulf forum for co-ordination of administrative and operational SAR services, and provide an interface with other national, regional and international organizations involved with the provision of emergency services. The Committee will develop a Gulf Civil Aviation SAR Plan and promote effective use of all available public and private facilities for civil aviation SAR within the Gulf, and to serve as a co-operative forum to exchange information and develop positions and policies of interest to parties participating in the Gulf civil aviation SAR services. Additionally the Committee will promote closer co-operation and coordination between civilian and military authorities and organizations for the provision of more effective Gulf Civil Aviation SAR services.

The Committee will hold its first meeting within 3 months to discuss the outcome of the seminar, select a committee chief and deputy chief and to develop a working plan for this committee.
